(IV) Yet, living in a multiracial society can also have advantages. (V) There is certainly more variety in music and art, for example, in such societies.
4. 4 (I)As a general rule, success in an exam depends on how much work you've done for it. (II) However, something that happened the other day showed that passing exams is not always a matter of hard work. (III) Jack, a friend of mine, not only passed his history exam, he even got very good marks without having done any work at all. (IV) He always does almost no work for his exams, but somehow manages to pass them all. (V)This only shows that luck can help; at any rate, it helped in this case.
5. 5 (I)The goddess Minerva, a champion weaver, believed her fabrics were the most beautiful in the world. (II) When Arachne, a peasant girl, boasted that her fabrics were the most beautiful, Minerva became angry and tore Arachne's weaving into shreds. (III) Arachne became angry at Minerva's destruction and hung herself. (IV)But, upon seeing how beautiful Arachne's weaving was, Minerva, repented and changed her into the champion weaver of all time the spider. (V)Fear of spiders is so common among humans that it even has a name arachniphobia.
6. 6 (I)Venice was a great sea-port in the thirteenth century. (II)Her warships controlled the eastern Mediterranean Sea and protected her merchant ships. (III) Her trade in goods from Asia for resale in Europe was the most important source of her wealth. (IV) Asia has always been attractive for Europeans because of such goods as" silk, precious stones and spices. (V) These goods, were not for the common people's markets, but for the rich people of Europe, the nobles and the new merchant classes.
