1. 1 (I) Just about everyone has nightmares at one time or another. (II) They are frightening or unpleasant dreams that disrupt sleep and cause fear and anxiety. (III) Nightmare themes may vary widely from person to person. (IV) Some nightmares can be caused by certain drugs or medications. (V) But probably the most common theme is being chased.
2. 2 (I)The earliest recorded attempts to generate pure water date back to 2000 B.C. (II) Early Sanskrit writings outlined methods for purifying water. (III) Hippocrates recognized the healing power of water. (IV) These methods ranged from boiling to placing hot metal instruments in water before drinking it. (V) Later, water was filtered through charcoal and exposed to sunlight.
3. 3 (I) Big cats used in performances present a grave danger. (II) During and after attacks, these animals are often beaten. (III) They are dangerous both to the public and to their trainers. (IV) It is not uncommon for a captive animal to lash out at their jailers and attempt to escape. (V) Since 1990, there have been at least 151 dangerous incidents involving big cats.

(IV) It is believed that between 1850 and 1910 more than one million Swedes moved to the United States alone. (V) Its neutrality during World War II has been disputed.
5. 5 (I) Worn by dancers, leg warmers are functional pieces of clothing used to keep the lower legs warm. (II) In the early 1980s however, they became popular with teenage girls as everyday clothing. (III) Their popularity was partly due to the influence of the film Flashdance. (IV) However, they had retreated back into relative obscurity by 1989. (V) They are very flexible and comfortable.
6. 6 (I) In some countries hitchhiking is a popular way of travelling. (II) Drivers are in general much less likely to pick up hitchhikers at night. (III) Hitchhiking is often resorted to by stranded motorists or people without money or transportation. (IV) Although most hitchhiking occurs without incident, it has a bad reputation. (V) Some criminals who prey on the good will of others masquerade as hitchhikers to procure victims.
